The inventions that laid the ground for modern mechanical watches were primarily made in the 16th and 17th centuries. Inventiveness proceeded with remarkable degrees of parallelism in France, Germany and England. The efforts of Abraham Louis Breguet, born in 1747, are still unequalled to this day. He is the Johanna Sebastian Bach of watchmakers.
